Lisa has more than 15 years of experience teaching private lessons, masterclasses, sectionals, camps, general music, strings and band. Her students audition and participate in All-Region Band, receive superior ratings at UIL Solo and Ensemble, and have advanced to State Level Solo and Ensemble.
Students in Lisa’s studio get to experience fun, unique, engaging recitals- some with audience participation! She loves to see students delight in playing and learning about music, grow in character, camaraderie, skill and musicianship while cultivating a life-long love of music.
French Horn is her primary instrument but she also has experience teaching beginning to advanced trumpet as well as beginning to intermediate piano, guitar, mandolin, violin, flute, clarinet, oboe and percussion to all ages and levels in public, private and home school settings. Lisa enjoys to be challenged and is constantly seeking out new ideas and methods to incorporate into her teaching. Her diverse musical background allows her to easily adapt her lessons to teach a variety of ages, levels and styles of learning. As a result, she offers a caring, encouraging and personalized approach to her teaching, learning what interests and motivates each student.
In April of 2021 Lisa completed training in the Suzuki Method for horn. Suzuki for brass is relatively new and Lisa was trained by the first Suzuki brass instructor in the world, Ann-Marie Sundberg. Lisa is currently collaborating with the community of newly minted Suzuki brass instructors from around the world to develop the method for brass! As of April 2021 there were less than 12 hornists and approximately 100 brass total in the world trained in the Suzuki Method. (See the Suzuki tab on this website to learn more!)
Lisa’s performance experience includes: Assistant Principal Hornist of the Ashland Symphony Orchestra, The Polymer Brass Quintet, Lunaris Woodwind Quintet, The University of Akron Symphony Orchestra and Symphonic Band, Ashland University Bands, Ohio Private College Instrumental Conductors Association (OPCICA) Honors Band, Mansfield Symphony Youth Orchestra and Brass Quintet, the Carrollton Wind Symphony, and has performed with The Center Stage Brass and freelances around the DFW area. In those ensembles she has had the opportunity to perform with the following notable musicians and composers: Randy Newman, Marvin Hamlish, Karel Husa, Robert Page, and Frank Ticheli.
A few of her teachers and coaches include Ann-Marie Sundberg (Sweden-Suzuki Brass), Bill Hoyt (University of Akron), Mike Metcalf (Ashland University), Arie Lipsky (Ashland Symphony), Ed Zadrozny (University of Akron and The Cleveland Orchestra), and Tom Reed (Ashland University).
Aside from teaching and playing horn Lisa is passionate about healthy living and is a Whole Food Nutrition Coach through the International Foundation for Nutrition and Health, is a Flying Aerial Yoga instructor, and enjoys exploring and viewing the world through the lenses of her two sons, Audric and Elias, spending time outdoors, traveling, jam sessions with friends, writing music and playing a variety of instruments.
